Welding is both an art and a science. Some types of welding take years of experience to master. If not performed correctly, welds on high pressure pipes and vessels like boilers can fail, with catastrophic consequences.
The solution is to hire a company like Modern Piping Inc. that specializes in both automated and manual welding. Modern Piping’s core competency is welding and few contractors have as much experience as we do.
Welding on high pressure piping and boilers (vessels) is referred to as “Code Welding” and special industry recognized certifications or “stamps” are required to perform this work. Modern Piping Inc. possesses both “R” and “PP” stamps.
“R” Stamp – Modern Piping Inc. is certified to conduct boiler repairs, which is governed by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) under a classification called R Stamp welding. In order to perform R Stamp welds and repairs on pressure vessels like boilers, welders are tested and certified in the quality of their weld joints through a rigorous testing procedure.
“PP” Stamp – Modern Piping Inc. is also certified to perform the welding, fitting, and installing of pipes and accessories that attach to pressure vessels under a classification called PP Stamp welding. This Power Piping (PP) Stamp is governed by ASME Code section B31.1 and also involves rigorous testing of welders and the procedures used.
“U” Stamp – Modern Piping Inc. is also certified to manufacture unfired pressure vessels and has been awarded its ASME “U” stamp.
In addition to “Code Welding”, Modern Piping Inc. performs a wide array of welding in industrial and commercial settings that are also governed by ASME Code, but don’t require specialized stamps.
Modern Piping, Inc. is also member of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau (NCPWB) which, among many other important functions, establishes and qualifies uniform Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) that conform with the requirements of Section IX, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and other nationally recognized codes for various methods of welding.
